published: Wednesday | June 23, 2004

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

EIGHT PERSONS were murdered over the past 48 hours in two troubled communities of St. Catherine and St. Andrew, pushing the country's death toll to 630 since January.

Up to yesterday, 110 persons were reported killed since the start of the month. April has been the bloodiest month so far, accounting for 125 murders.

Renewed fighting in the enclaves of Spanish Town, St. Catherine, has resulted in the death of five persons between Monday and yesterday, while three others were gunned down in the south St. Andrew Police Division.

SPANISH TOWN VICTIMS

The Spanish Town victims have been identified as Carlton Innerarity, a 36-year-old security guard of Job Lane; Carl Samuda, 42, of Martin Street; Junior Tulloch, a 36-year-old juice vendor of March Pen Road; Garth Omellia and Winston Shaw, also of Job Lane.

Reports reaching The Gleaner are that Shaw, Omellia and Innerarity were killed on Monday, while Tulloch and Samuda were gunned down yesterday. Those killed in the South St. Andrew Police Division are Rosalee Glanville, a 44-year-old bus conductress employed to the Government-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC); Duke Duncan, who was killed in the White Wing area by unknown assailants and an unidentified man who was found in an open lot by the Mandela Highway.
