A diamond in the rough
published: Thursday | June 24, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE PARISH of St. Elizabeth could be transformed into one of the most prosperous parishes on this beautiful island. We have the Black River water system going to waste in the sea day by day. Has Government ever thought of the tremendous benefits to the economy on a whole and especially to the parish of St. Elizabeth? The water could be used to irrigate the Pedro Plains and the low-lying districts of the Treasure Beach area.

We also have the Great Pedro Bluff where the prevailing trade winds from the east and southeast blow 365 days a year, making it an ideal place for a windfarm to generate electricity.

With bauxite, tourism, agriculture, and fishing St. Elizabeth could boost the economy and enrich its people.

I am, etc.,

ARTIE A. PARCHMENT

Great Bay

St. Elizabeth
