'Cool Runnings' still hot!
published: Tuesday | June 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS WAS the last thing I had expected - to come here and see the film 'Cool Runnings'.

I had totally forgotten that it was even produced. Despite the other negatives that depress us at times, there is still much to be proud of about our land. And so I just thought I'd share with you how Jamaica has impacted the world, even way Down Under. The weird thing is some of them (Australians) do not even know where on the globe Jamaica is located. Some even wonder if we are near China. Yet the Gold, Green and Black is still being paraded on the TV screens. For real! and not in the negative either.

How so? You ask. Well, remember that good old film Cool Runnings about the Jamaican Bob Sled Team, Yeh Mon! It's still running hot, hot. Can you believe it? It's still being watched amidst hilarious laughter and cheerful heart.

It was quite a delight to have something with which to share with the people here of which they are so elated and I can feel apart of and at home. Some have even watched the movie four and five times and can repeat word for word.

Yeh seriously! Their favourite saying above all being "Yeh Mon!. I have to be saying it the real Jamaican way for the mates here, though. And of course a little patois just so they can hear what it sounds like.

I bet the producers of the film back then didn't have a clue that it would still be bobbing and sledding under here today. Way to go Jamaica!

I am, etc.,
