published: Thursday | July 1, 2004

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE WESTMORELAND Chapter of the Lay Magistrates' Association of Jamaica has presented a full scholarship to a twelve-year-old student of the Sir Clifford Campbell Primary School in Westmoreland.

Pilar Brown was presented with the scholarship from the Lay Magistrates, following her success in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

The scholarship covers tuition, books, uniform and lunch for five years at the Mannings High School where she was placed.

To retain the scholarship, the recipient has to maintain good grades and attend school regularly, as well as be punctual and well mannered.

Pilar who is from a Hudson Street address in Sav-la-Mar received the scholarship at an awards banquet at the Negril Hills Golf Club last Friday.

Her profile from Sir Clifford Campbell Primary described her as a focused student with a high level of self-discipline, and a person who works well using her own initiative. Apart from being class monitor for two consecutive years, Pilar is also a member of the school's science, mathematics, and 4H clubs.

Pilar hails from a family of seven children.
