Real estate mogul dies
published: Thursday | July 1, 2004

By Janet Silvera, Gleaner Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

MONTEGO BAY'S real estate mogul, Joseph Heath, died on Tuesday afternoon at the MoBay Hope Medical facilities in Rose Hall.

Mr. Heath, who operated the Joseph Heath Real Estate Brokers and Construction Company, lost a short battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.

In April Heath received the prestigious Century International Quality Era Award in Geneva, Switzerland. Shortly after his return to Jamaica he fell ill.

On June 1, Heath's offices were relocated from Overton Plaza, where he spent several years, to Mayfield Plaza, Dudley Kassin Drive, but he didn't live to experience his new surroundings.

Joseph Heath was born in Hopeton, St. James. He moved to Montego Bay at age 17 years old, where he tried his vocals as a musician. In the late 1970s he established one of Montego Bay's first real estate companies. "When I got involved in real estate, you never needed a licence," he told The Gleaner in April 2004.

He died leaving three daughters, Michelle, Shoya and Janice.
