THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM disgusted with the way in which the members of the Jamaica Labour Party have dealt with Mr. Edward Seaga. I was particularly disappointed to find out that Mr. Golding was among the group that held a meeting of Central Executive Committee members in the absence of Mr. Seaga.
Mr. Seaga has done nothing to cause such disrespect from his colleagues. He has given so much to ensure that the Jamaican people have a country to be proud of. The country has had nothing to be proud of since the loss of the JLP in the General Election of 1989 and he is not to blame for the defeats of the party. It's the bickering and backbiting that occurs within the party.
Mr. Seaga has so many accomplishments to be proud of and his party members should be honouring his leadership, they'll never see another one like that in the future of the party. The only way the JLP will stand a chance of victory in the next elections would be to try and emulate Mr. Seaga's standards. He has stood firm in his belief that Jamaica is the best Caribbean island and he has proved it during his time as Prime Minister of Jamaica and he is to be commended for a job well-done and a position well-served.
I am 27 years old and in all of my years there is no other leader I have looked up to like Mr. Seaga. It is a downright dirty shame the way they went about having the leader step down, airing their dirty laundry in public. In case they have not realised it, this has done nothing to increase the public's confidence in the leadership of the party.
I am, etc.,
