Paulwell praises postal service
published: Friday | July 2, 2004

"THE MANAGEMENT of the postal service has done a tremendous job in improving staff morale, and one of the best labour relations climates now exist. There is a strong working partnership with the trade unions that represent postal workers, and all the workers are on board and can see a brighter future where the postal service will be efficient and profitable, With all employees being paid appropriate wages based on performance."

This statement was one of the cornerstones of the address of the Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, Phillip Paulwell, at the recent official opening of the Liguanea Post Mall and Post Office.

Citing other good relationships in which the postal service is involved, Minister Paulwell said: "The last year has also seen a tremendous improvement in the relationships between the Postal Corporation and the business and residential communites in which it operates through hundreds of post offices and postal agencies. Over seven new postal agencies were built under community partnership initiatives in last financial year of the Corporation, and so far this year, another two have been opened in the Manchester town of Kendal, and the McCooks Pen community in St. Catherine.

Turning to the Postal Corporation's commercial partnerships, Minister Paulwell said: "I could go on all evening to sing the praises of the turnaround of the postal service. I could talk about new business partnerships formed with enterprises in areas as diverse like mobile phone card distribution, bill payment and money transfer.

While rolling out all the positive achievements of the Postal Corporation, Minister Paulwell also cited the new corporate structure, including the new board of directors, and the corporate office which is responsible for business development and commercial services.

In concluding his address, he mentioned ongoing plans to improve the service and appearance of all post offices so that customers will have a greater sense of how much attention is being paid to making them comfortable when they come to do business at the post office.
