Devil taking over Jamaica
published: Saturday | July 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I LIVE in Port Charlotte, Florida, and I keep up with my Jamaican news on the Internet.

I was moved to despair when I read about the man that went into the church to gun down a woman. Jamaicans need to wake up and see that the devil is taking over the island. We are living in perilous times, this is no time for Jamaicans to sit pretty. This is a wake-up call for all the churches telling them that they have to sound the trumpet and sanctify a fast.

The devil is taking over the island daily, children are being sexually exploited, schools that parents would have been proud to send their children to in the past are falling into disrepair, gangs are burning people's bodies, the Government is in an uproar over who should lead and there are issues of gay rights.

Where is the love, caring and sharing? We must not look to America and copy their lifestyle, fashion and food. Jamaica is an awesome place with beautiful people. Please, for the love of God, let us as a nation of God-fearing people check ourselves before we wreck ourselves.

We need to get back to the basics of life and start to love and care for ourselves and our island in the sun.

I am etc.,
