LETTER OF THE DAY:
I wish you well, Mr Seaga
published: Thursday | July 8, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir:
FROM ALL indications, Mr. Seaga appears to be serious and determined this time round that he will vacate the seat as leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in November 2004. The circumstances under which he has had to make this announcement are very regrettable, coming as it did under the heels of open hostility and internecine rivalry in the party.
I personally wished that he would have a more graceful exit. In past submissions I cautioned the 'reformists' to be careful to give the leader the respect that he deserved as an elder statesman in the party. This should be so, notwithstanding the flaws in Mr. Seaga's management of the party's affairs that have built up hostilities among party members over the years. It seems that Mr. Seaga's memoirs will now be early realised.
I wish him well in his retirement and look forward to his future contributions to our country from the fine intellect and treasured experience over the years. He must not allow bitterness to overcome him, but help to guide the party into the future, despite the immature rantings of the so-called reformists. He must not play in their 'mud puddle' but rise above them.
I wish you well, Mr. Seaga.
I am, etc.,
REV. RALSTON NEMBHARD
