Gunmen rob SuperPlus in Mandeville
published: Friday | July 9, 2004

Mandeville, MANCHESTER:

GUNMEN STRUCK the SuperPlus Supermarket in the Midway Mall, Mandeville on Tuesday afternoon reportedly making off with more than $1 million which was snatched from a bearer.

According to manager of the store, Mr. Robert Chen, the incident happened minutes after he left the store with a bearer to make a deposit at the bank.

The bearer was reportedly attacked by three men in a Toyota Corolla motor car.

Superintendent George Quallo, the officer in charge of the Manchester Police, told The Gleaner that he was very disheartened about the robbery because the police, through its intelligence gathering arm, had discovered a plot to rob a large supermarket in the town. He said the police had warned supermarket owners of the reports and offered escort service.

Mr. Chen said however that the police did not speak to him about the reports or of any offer to provide escort service to the bank.
