THE EDITOR, Sir:
WE THE members of the Lay Magistrate's Association of St. Mary wish to use your medium to express our disgust and outrage at the despicable and ruthless murder of Mr. and Mrs. Winston Chin of Claremont, St. Mary on Saturday, July 3, 2004.
Mr. and Mrs. Chin were dear and close friends to us and the wider society of St. Mary. They were significant contributors to the economy of the parish through their supermarket in Annotto Bay, which has been an inavaluable entity within that town and its surroundings for many years. Mr. Chin was also a Justice of the Peace for the parish for a number of years, giving of his time, service and knowledge to all who sought his help and guidance.
The contributions of this couple to the Annotto Bay community over the years cannot be adequately measured and to have their lives snuffed out in such a callous and calculated act of barbaric irrationality smacks of the killer's moral degradation and short-sightedness.
Who now will these unjustifiable takers of lives and community upliftment put in the place of the industrious Chins? The loss of the services of Mr. Chin as a Justice of the Peace will also impact negatively upon the same community.
The Annotto Bay community is outraged, and it is our hope that the police will catch the culprits as soon as possible.
I am, etc.,
