By Orville Clarke, Freelance WriterTOMORROW'S WELL supported 12-race programme at Caymanas Park offers a Pick-9 carryover of $1,312.325, which could result in a payout of over $2 million to a lucky punter.
The Super-6 also boasts a $500,000 carryover and with two gracing the mammoth programme, it could be a day of large payouts.
The Pick-9 will be conducted from races four to 12. Our focus, however, is on the second Super-6.
Race seven, a 3-y-o and up restricted allowance I (non winners of two) over 1100 metres, has attracted 11 starters and from the look of things, it should provide keen competition with most of the starters having good claims.
These include THE REAL KING, MUSIC MAKER, RISTO-CAT, SPEED EXPRESS, MINISTEROFFINANCE and ANGELENA, the mount of bang-in-form champion jockey Trevor Simpson.
STRONGLY REPRESENTED
Speed is strongly represented by THE REAL KING, SPEED EXPRESS, MINISTEROFFINANCE, ROOMFORTYNINE and RISTO-CAT who caught the eye last Saturday when finishing third to BATTLEOX over 1300 metres in a fast-run race.
RISTO-CAT, THE REAL KING and SPEED EXPRESS (working well) will more than likely carry them into the straight with the Philip Feanny-trained MUSIC MASTER waiting to pounce. However, I fear they will play into the hands of Feanny's other runner, ANGELENA.
This lightly raced filly by Royal Minister out of Ruling Angel failed to impress in both starts this season when losing to CRUCIAL POINT and MAGIC DRAGON in separate races in May. However, ANGLELENA has worked well in preparation for this race and with connections going for Simpson on this her third career start, her final rattle should prove hard to withstand.
The eighth race, to be contested by bottom of the barrel horses over the circular nine course, could prove problematic for punters in their efforts to find the winner.
CECIL C. CHARLTON TROPHY
Horses like ZACKATTACK, TIFTAYVIA, LADY PHAGWAH, QUEEN OF BETHANY and VIENTO shoould prove competitive, with VIENTO, who seems best suited to the distance, getting the nod ahead of ZACKATTACK and LADY PHAGWAH.
One of the more competitive races on the card is the ninth, this for the Cecil C. Charlton Trophy to be contested by 10 horses from the $390,000 - $330,000 claiming spread over 1200 metres.
Included in the lineup are several horses stepping down from overnight allowance company to vie for this trophy. They include RESTLESS WARRIOR, QUICK MEDIC, BROTHER DANIEL and RUCKUS who beat a good field over the distance on May 24 for the Labour Day Trophy. RUCKUS, now back to his happy hunting ground, is afforded a real chance of resuming winning ways from the convenient mark of 51.0kg.
However, if his chances are good, so too are those of SHAHID, who finished a close second in the Labour Day Trophy and the recent winner RED BOOTLACES, not to mention Trevor Simpson's mount, RESTLESS WARRIOR who won three consecutive races between March and May.
In what promises to be a highly competitive race, BROTHER DANIEL who is potentially better than claiming company gets the nod, even though racing for the first time since January when finishing seven lengths sixth to LIL' COUNTRY BOY in a fast run 1100-metre race. He reports in good nick and catches my fancy from the convenient mark of 51.0kg.
Race number 10 should resolve itself into a straight fight between LADY DOC and BONNIEVIEW, second and third receptively to KINGS ROYALTY over 1100 metres recently. Reigning 'Horse of the Year' A KING IS BORN (working exceptionally well) represents a five-star banker in the 11th race, while RED WOOD (now pretty light) is preferred to HADDO and BLUE DEBBIE in the closing race over 1400 metres.
