THE JAMAICA Social Investment Fund (JSIF) yesterday signed a contract for the rehabilitation of Karl Samuda Lane, popularly referred to as Black Ants Lane on Red Hills Road, St. Andrew, at a cost of $1.46 million.

The project, which is being funded by the European Union (EU) in the form of a grant under its Poverty Reduction Programme, will involve the rehabilitation of 0.305 kilometres of roadway, including the construction of appropriate drainage channels and repairs to kerb walls. The contract for the repairs was signed at the offices of the JSIF, New Kingston yesterday.

Lee Clarke, councillor for the area, said he was happy that the road will be rehabilitated "because areas such as Black Ants Lane, Standpipe and those areas need better infrastructure not only to let the place look good, but to uplift the whole thinking of the residents in the area and people from outside (the community) would better accept the appearance of the area."
