Hinchcliffe
SOME BUSINESS owners are closing their shutters to avoid extortionists and ensure their safety, but not the entrepreneurial mogul Audrey Hinchcliffe. The trick that she suggests for the trade is the 'each one, reach one'
principle.
"In the midst of crime and violence our security depends on how we live with fellow citizens. Avoid the dons by doing legitimate business with them. Ask them to send their relatives for jobs," she said to a group of public relations practitioners at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, New Kingston, yesterday.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Her suggestion to business owners is that they include an agenda to help others, since no one would want to harm a boss who has offered employment opportunities across the board.
Mrs. Hinchcliffe is the chief executive officer of Manpower and Maintenance Services Group, which she founded over a decade ago. Under her directorship, the company has been transformed into the largest janitorial and maintenance company of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean. Based on her extraordinary success, Mrs. Hinchcliffe was elected the first female president of the Jamaica Employers' Federation (JEF) last week.
"Perhaps they see in me what I do not realise I have because I do not take myself seriously," she told the Public Relations Society of Jamaica luncheon. "What I do, however, I try my best to do what I am asked to do, I guard my integrity zealously... I am honest in my dealings with others and I respect the rule of law and positive societal codes absolutely.
"However, at the same time, I will put up a stiff fight if you violate my rights and those I feel responsible for," added the JEF president. "This will be the case during my stewardship of the Jamaica Employers' Federation."
