THE EDITOR, Sir:THE REPORT addressing last Thursday's walk-out by the People's National Party Councillors in the Manchester Parish Council did not address the reason why I did not entertain any more discussion on the matter of the Nashville Bus Park.
The important and relevant reason is that the matter of the Nashville Bus Park had already been referred to the Infrastructure Committee meeting in the morning when the Mayor, Councillor Desmond Harrison, was chairing the meeting. This was agreed on by all the councillors present.
Councillor Dalton Brown wanted to address the matter on another issue surrounding the bus park, after the Mayor had left to attend another function and I was chairing the meeting, was, in my opinion, not suitable. Councillor Maxwell (who had arrived late) tried to move a motion on the matter after it was stated over and over again that the matter had already been referred to another meeting which was, in my opinion, deliberately disruptive.
We often speak of the need to work in the best interest of the people whom we represent and there is no doubt that there will be differences of opinion on various matters. However, we must always bear in mind that the business of the Parish Council is the business of the people and not our own.
I am, etc.,
SALLY PORTEOUS
Deputy Mayor of Mandeville
