More sensible 'net' charges needed
published: Wednesday | July 14, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE GOVERNMENT constantly stresses the use of technology and the fact that they want it to be available for everyone in Jamaica. Yet, they are doing nothing to curtail the price of internet service faced by the regular home-user.

Prices are now far too high. One has to pay rent for the telephone line from Cable and Wireless; then you have to pay for your internet account; then every time you dial up you must pay for telephone call. When all is added up, it is way too expensive.

An internet account can cost about $1,000, line rental $800, and going on the 'net about $3,000 on the phone bill, a total of $4,800 way too much just to surf the 'net.

The Government needs to do something about the availability of internet service to everyone at a more reasonable price, without us having to go through the "O so expensive Cable and Wireless".

I am etc;

IAN CALVIN

Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
