'Witnesses' convention for MoBay
published: Wednesday | July 14, 2004

WESTERN BUREAU:

MORE THAN 7,000 people are expected to gather at the Jarrett Park Sports Stadium in Montego Bay this weekend for the Jehovah's Witnesses District Convention, which will be staged under the theme 'Walk With God'.

"Annually, we, as witnesses, host conventions worldwide," said Patrick Riddell, a member of the Jehovah's Witness Convention Committee. "We select the themes based on current worldwide conditions, as well as people's general needs for spirituality. This year's theme was selected based on our perception of people's need to walk with God, especially in these turbulent times of crime, social upheaval, food shortage and pollution."

Now in its fourth year since its conception in 2001, the convention promises a host of information and encouragement based on Scripture.

WALK WITH GOD

Each day will focus on a new topic with day one, this Friday, featuring the keynote address, 'Walk With God In Turbulent Times', to be followed by 'Walking With Jehovah By Appointment' on day two and 'Keep On The Watch The Hour Has Drawn Near,' on day three.

The keynote address is one of the highlights of the convention, Mr. Riddell said. "It will identify that given the turbulent times walking with God is the best course to pursue. The keynote speaker will be Delroy Edwards, a member of the Jamaica Branch Committee." Another highlight of the convention is the baptism of new disciples on day two.

Clearly looking forward to the convention, Mr. Riddell told The Gleaner that the convention was open to persons of all denominations and that he was expecting a good turnout.
