LONDON, CMC:ENGLISH PREMIER League side Portsmouth have completed a double swoop for striker Lomana LuaLua and defender David Unsworth, and the exciting Jamaican forward Ricardo Fuller could confirm his transfer to join them later this week.
The 23-year-old LuaLua, from Congo, joins from Newcastle after spending the final four months of last season on loan at Fratton Park, and former England international Unsworth arrives at the south coast from Everton.
The duo passed medicals at the club on Monday.
Unsworth has made over 300 appearances in two spells at Everton and will be looking to add experience to the Ports-mouth defence.
The 30-year-old will also provide Portsmouth with a valuable goalscoring contribution, having netted 23 goals in his time at Goodison Park.
Pompey have also agreed a deal with Preston North End for striker Ricardo Fuller, which is expected to be completed later this week. Fuller scored 19 goals for Preston North End last season and established himself as one of the top strikers in the First Division.
Gardner inks dealJAMAICA'S RICARDO Gardner has signed a new four-year contract with English Premiership club Bolton Wanderers, according to a report posted on SkySports website yesterday.
Gardner, who missed most of last season due to a knee ligament injury, is looking to secure his starting position for the 2004/2005 Premiership campaign.
The 25-year-old left-sided player made his comeback towards the end of last season and recently played in Jamaica's World Cup qualifying matches against Haiti.
He will spend 10 years at Bolton if he sees out the entirety of his new contract, after arriving on the back of his 1998 World Cup displays for the Reggae Boyz in France.
The former Harbour View wing back/midfielder has made 152 league appearances for Bolton and according to SkySports, the £1,000,000 splashed out by the club was clearly money well spent.
Meanwhile, Jermaine Johnson, another Jamaican player who had a stint at Bolton, is currently out of a contract.
The 22-year-old Johnson joined Oldham firstly on loan from Oldham, before completing the rest of his contract there.
However, all hope is not lost as it was reported that Oldham wants to keep the exciting Johnson at the club after a successful loan spell, but paying his wages is proving to be a major stumbling block. However, the report said negotiations are still going on to try and pull off a deal.
