PNPYO to elect new exec
published: Thursday | July 15, 2004

ABOUT 800 REGISTERED delegates of the People's National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) will on Saturday vote for a new executive to lead the organisation over the next two years.

The PNPYO will hold its biennial congress at St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Senator Kern Spencer, the current PNPYO president, will not be seeking re-election due to a number of added responsibilities he said he has been given in recent times.

The race for president will be fought among the current general secretary Andrew Ocola, Leo Osbourne, vice-president in charge of Region Four, and Region Three chairman Michael Palmer.

CANDIDATES

Up to Tuesday, candidates vying for the four vice-president posts were Shawn Cole, chairperson for St. Thomas; Lee Townsend, chairperson for Manchester; vice-president for Region Five Marlon Elliott, and Carlene Fenton, chairperson for Region Four.

Meanwhile, responding to question from the press on Tuesday, Mr. Spencer said the PNPYO will be banking on a $950,000 budget to prepare for the one-day congress.

Highlighting some of his achievements as president, the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, said the PNPYO membership has significantly increased to 25,000 under his watch. He said the PNPYO has also successfully established chapters at the University of Technology, Northern Caribbean University, Mico College, Munro College, and Hampton High School.
