THE FINAL of the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) Senior League, its second division national championship which is dubbed the 'clash of parishes', is on today between St. Catherine and St. Mary at Sabina Park, starting at 10:00 a.m.
St. Catherine booked their spot in the final with a first innings victory over Police, while St. Mary scored a similar win against St. James at Jarrett Park. Both matches were played two weekends ago.
WILL BE PROMOTED
Apart from being in the final, both teams, despite playing for just a trophy, will be promoted to the Supreme Ventures Super Cup league next season.
Entering today's final, St. Catherine should be considered odds-on favourite, not because they were in the Super League two seasons ago but because they have a better all-round team.
Former Jamaica Youth player Gregory Buchanan, his brother Colin, pacer Lascelles Davis, along with semi-final century makers Junior Stewart and Kirk Gordon and big-hitting Howard Harris, should give St. Catherine the edge.
As for St. Mary, who cannot be counted out, Maurice Clarke, Tyson Gordon, Dervin Morand and Hensley Wilshew are capable enough to upset the favourites.
Teams:
St. Catherine:- Colin Buchanan, Howard Harris, Lascelles Davis, Kevin Kelly, Robert Cato, Gregory Buchanan, Lloyd Rattray, Brenton Beckford, Marlon Williams, Junior Stewart, Kirk Gordon (player/coach), Orane Kelly and Errol Downer.
St. Mary:- Maurice Clarke, Tyson Gordon, Ian McLeod, Gendon McLeod, Dervin Morand, Edward Llewellyn, Hensley Wilshew, Toussaint Hassan, Omar Boreland, Ronald Mitchell, Andre Creary, Claudious Thompson and Roland Gooden.
