THE EDITOR, Sir:I AM intrigued and not a little amused by the headline 'Columbus descendant to visit Jamaica next week' (Gleaner Thursday, July 15).
My reaction stems from the fact that a "Columbus' descendant" was here from last December 26 to May 5 at the Little Theatre as star of the LTM National Pantomime Combolo.
Talk about life imitating art!
For the record, the three thousand and thirty-third descendant of the great explorer had returned to Jamaica to the Arawaks and apologised for the way he had treated them. (Reparation implied!)
Apart from sightseeing, what has brought another descendant His Grace Cristobal Colon de Carvajal to Jamaica now?
Will he seek out the Arawaks? Will he find gold? Does he understand why onstage we called the other Columbus descendants, "Combolo?" Serious ting!
I am, etc
