A SPECIAL feature on water and its impact on the consumption and production of local foods will be on show at the 52nd annual staging of the Jamaica Agricultural Society's (JAS) Denbigh Agricultural Show, scheduled for July 31 to August 2 at the Denbigh showground in Clarendon.
The display will be mounted by the St. Thomas Denbigh Agricultural Show Committee, comprising extension staff from the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) and private individuals.
Caswell Glover, RADA's manager for St. Thomas, said that the committee would be focusing on water because of its significance in domestic food production.
DOMESTIC FOOD CROPS
He also said that there would be displays on a wide range of domestic food crops as well as value added products made from fruits and vegetables produced in St. Thomas.
However, Mr. Glover said the number of fruits and vegetables on display would be limited because of the drought, which has been affecting the parish, particularly the western end.
The exhibition will also focus on some of the work of the St. Thomas Women's Agricultural Initiative in Potosi, St. Thomas. The group was launched three years ago by the Bureau of Women's Affairs and RADA to generate income through crop production.
