By Paul-Andre Walker, Staff ReporterWITH TWO games already gone in the Kingston and St. Andrew Masters League football competition, defending champions Christian Ambassadors are off to an inauspicious start while Shortwood, Barbican and St. George's have emerged as the teams to beat.
Ambassadors, who were expected to at least compete for top honours, have found that Zone A hasn't been the easiest one to survive in, having had two 1-1 draws for two points and fifth place in the eight-team group.
In that same zone, Brown's Town, Maxfield and Park Rovers have found themselves knotted together in Zone A on four points, copping a win and a draw from their two games each. This zone promises to be the tightest of the three with at least four traditionally competitive teams vying for the title.
In Zone B, Shortwood and Barbican have two wins from as many games. Real Mona lie three points off the lead but have only played one game.
Zone C, which features long-time contenders Harbour View, has been surprising, to say the least. While St. George's have stayed true to form and found themselves in the lead after two games and six points, they are closely followed by Nautica on four points with a win and a draw from their two games.
Lying in third place are Harbour View who are yet to strike up any goals having played to two 0-0 draws on their way to two points.
The next set of games are slated for today with Telecom Strikers playing against Maxfield at the Cable and Wireless field while Real Mona play M.V. Exodus both games begin at 4:30 p.m.
In the day's other games, the University of the West Indies (UWI) will host a doubleheader in which Washington Strikers take on Lion King at 3:00 p.m. and Professionals tackle Eastern at 4:30 p.m.
So far, the leading goalscorers have come from the top teams with Donovan Evans of St. George's, Peter Grant of Brown's Town and Wayne Wonder of Barbican topping the charts with three goals each.
