Over 20 sponsors for agricultural show
published: Tuesday | July 27, 2004

THE JAMAICA Agricultural Society (JAS) has confirmed more than 20 main sponsors for the 52nd annual Denbigh Agri-Industrial Show slated for Friday to Monday in Denbigh, Clarendon.

The event, dubbed 'We Are What We Eat So Let's Eat Jamaican', is projected to raise $5 million in profits through sponsorship, ticket sales and booth rentals. The event will be staged at a cost of just over $10 million, according to JAS president, Senator Norman Grant.

Topping the list of corporate supporters is Digicel, the only 'platinum' sponsor.

According to Harry Smith, Digicel's commercial director, the company was sponsoring the event for the third consecutive year, in support of local farmers, whom he said represented a significant number of its rural clientele base.

"Nothing is more identifiable with rural Jamaica than farming," he noted, adding that as a corporate entity, his company was making an effort to introduce technologies that could provide farmers with current agricultural information that could help to improve production.

Other major sponsors are Jamaica Broilers Group, Power 106 FM, RJR Communications Group, Radio Mona and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Proceeds from Denbigh 2004, expected to be attended by more than 50,000 patrons, will be used to fund infrastructure development of the Denbigh Showgrounds, including the establishment of an agricultural theme park.
