Time for sackcloth and ashes
published: Tuesday | July 27, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an open letter to all Christians. How long will it take for those of us who declare Jesus Christ to be the God of all creation and the Saviour of the world, to realise the times we are living in?

Various persons are attempting to offer solutions to the state that Jamaica finds herself in, but what has become of God's people?. Why are the mouths of God's people silent? Have we not heard of Soddom and Gomorrah? of Nineveh? It's stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14-15: "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place."

Do we not realise the state that Jamaica is in? Are we going to wait until we can't leave our houses? Are we going to wait until they start coming into our churches and killing people? Are we going to wait until we've tried everything and all else fails. Well the wait is over!

I challenge every leader of every church in this country which claims Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour to call a fast, and a time of prayer where God's people can cry out to him 'heal our land'.

Who will take up the challenge?

I am, etc.,

J.T.
