
Figueroa
THE FACULTY of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, will open its doors to a new dean come September.
According to Gleaner sources, Mark Figueroa, lecturer in the Department of Economics has been appointed to the post.
He will replace outgoing dean, Professor Barry Chevannes, who has served the faculty as Dean for eight years.
Dr. Figueroa holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the UWI, Master of Science in Economics, also from the UWI, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester. Dr. Figueroa is the brother of Peter Figuerora, chief of AIDS and epidemiology at the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Figueroa's research interests include aspects of the relationship between the economy and its socio-cultural and natural environment. He has an interest in gender and has written papers on the issue. In the early 1980s, he was a founding member of the UWI's Women's Studies Group at Mona.
