American 'bully behaviour'
published: Wednesday | July 28, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE CURRENT issue about the American Embassy being erected in the Liguanea area, to the vain protest of its citizenry, is yet another case of American 'bully behaviour'. America does what it wants wherever and no one seems to be able to stop it.

Many persons, I hear, have been asking the rhetorical question, "Where is the Jamaican Govern-ment in all this?" Maybe they have gone AWOL in the war against the true terrorism: United States manipulation of 'lesser nations'.

Now, I recognise that our government has tried, in vain of course, to oppose some of the injustices by other wealthier nations (USA included) only to be silenced by threats of sanctions. But it does not help one bit when the individual citizens daily adopt the lifestyle, culture and fashion of this 'superpower' while dreaming of running off there at every chance.

People, we need to back our hapless government and sanction America in our own little way; the ways to do this though still being somewhat of a mystery.

I am, etc.,

N. ALEXANDER
