THE ELIMINATIONS and sashing of the finalists in the Miss Jamaica World competition are to take place on Sunday August 1 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel at 11 am. Prospective contestants however have until Friday, July 30, 2004, to submit entry forms.
Entrants will parade before a panel of judges, after which the finalists for the competition will be chosen. Contestants in the Miss Jamaica World Competition should be between 17 and 24 years, should not be a mother and should never have been married.
Miss Jamaica World 2004 will win an impressive set of prizes which includes two scholarships valued at over 1 million dollars courtesy of the University College of the Caribbean, first class travel to the finals of the Miss World competition in China courtesy of Air Jamaica, an advertising and modelling contract valued at $250,000 from Spartan and a Cash award of $100,000 courtesy of Jergens.
b-Mobile will facilitate the 'Pick the Winner Competition', which allows members of the public to vote for their favourite contestant via voice or text messages. The winner of this competition will receive a cash award of $250,000.
MINI COMPETITIONS
The Miss Jamaica World competition will have additional mini competitions this year in keeping with guidelines from the Miss World Pageant. These comprise the Miss Jamaica (World) Talent which allows the contestants to showcase their talents in the performing arts; Miss Jamaica (World) Sport which focuses on athletic prowess at a particular sporting activity and the Miss Jamaica (World) Beach Beauty which focuses on beauty of figure, skin and muscle tone. The winners of these competitions will be automatic top ten finalists and will each win a cash award and a trophy.
The eliminations on Sunday form part of a 'Fitness and Health Extravaganza' organised by Spartan and will include displays give-aways and demonstrations by sponsors. The event is open to the public at a cost of $500.
The day's activities will also include fitness, bodybuilding and gymnastics presentations which will feature noted local fitness and bodybuilding personalities. Valerie Bennett, who holds such titles as the Miss Spartan Body Beautiful, Miss Jamaica Bikini, Miss Jamaica Body Fitness and Miss Central American and Caribbean Body Fitness will be among the presenters. Mark McDonald, Mr Jamaica Novice 2000 and Mr. Jamaica Junior 2000, as well as the reigning Mr. Jamaica Novice and Mr. Jamaica Junior, Dwayne Hylton will also flex their muscles in the name of entertainment. The Dead lift, Squat and Bench Press competitions will be open to public participation. Interested persons should submit entries through Spartan Health Club.
