CHRIS BROWN, general secretary of the Patriot, the group of young professionals affiliated to the ruling People's National Party (PNP), has expressed his interest to represent South East St. Mary in the next General Election, a constituency currently held by the PNP's Harry Douglas.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Gleaner Mr. Brown said he has been working with the people of the constituency for some time now and, based on the great response he has received, decided to offer himself to represent the area.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Noting that the incumbent MP has indicated that he will not be seeking re-election in the next General Election, Mr. Brown said: "I think with my experience working in South East, St. Mary, the time has come for me to represent the people at the Parliamentary level."
The young patriot member, who is also senior advisor to National Security Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips, said his vision for the constituency include educational development and skills training to reorganise the agricultural system in the area to meet 21st century requirements. He also has housing as a priority.
Member of Parliament for the constituency, Harry Douglas, when contacted, told The Gleaner that he is prepared to support Mr. Brown over anyone else, because he has been there working with the people for the past three years.
"His (Chris Brown's) effort to mobilise the constituency has been a tremendous one. He was also very instrumental in the last General Election in South East St. Mary," said Mr. Douglas. "Chris was born in the constituency and had spent most of his time there with the supporters on the ground."
