Who will defend the lawyers?
published: Sunday | August 1, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir

CONCERNING BODY searches of attorneys-at-law: Are lawyers being subjected to a pat down or a cavity search? There is a world of difference.

If the attorney is female, who is doing the searching? If an attorney has no complaints proved against them at the General Legal Council, and is in compliance with their professional obligations, are they not entitled to the presumption of innocence we afford their clients?

If lawyers are subjected to degrading treatment, who will defend the poor among us?

I am etc.
