THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE RT. Hon. Hugh Lawson Shearer did a lot for the workers and people of Vere, Clarendon and Jamaica. He was instrumental in the Jamalco plant being built at Halse Hall to provide work for the people of Clarendon. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Mango Walk skills-training centre at Water Lane, Clarendon.
Mango Walk skills training centre provided Jamalco with many of its skilled workers. With this in mind, I am calling for the reopening of the centre in memory of Mr Shearer. It should be named 'Hugh Law-son Shearer Skills Training Centre'.
BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
I am also recommending that a board of management should be established to ensure that the proper funding is in place with the following persons and companies asked to sit on it: Michael Lee Chin (NCB), Jamalco, Hugh Shearer Trust, The Rt. Hon. Percival James Patterson, The Ministry of Education, Mr. Ruddy Spencer MP (BITU) and the Chairman of the Heart Trust.
I am publicly recommending Jamalco to co-ordinate this noble venture. I choose Jamalco because of Jamaica's positive contribution to education and training. I do hope that my humble suggestion will be a beacon of hope for the people of Vere. The young people deserve the training, Mr. Shearer deserves the recognition and Jamaica will be richer.
I am, etc.,
BENJAMIN O. BEALE
