Too much self-praise
published: Monday | August 2, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RE: BUSINESS lessons from Michael Lee Chin: We get fed regular doses of Lee Chin's achievements and wealth in The Gleaner almost weekly as though it is some kind of infomercial for him or the NCB Group. These were impressive at first and I, like other Jamaicans was proud of him. But of late some of his ranting about his business model makes one want to crawl into a corner and cringe!

Fact is: the Chinese have a saying about 'heavenly timing', being at the right place at the right time when opportunity knocks and being smart enough to recognise it and grab it.

He got his break in life and kudos to him for that, but I cannot understand why we have to be reminded about it all the time, especially by him. That person that once told Michael Lee Chin that 'Success is one per cent strategy and 99 per cent execution could well be right. He also told the billionaire: "Don't talk about being successful, do it".

The Canadian success is history and I would rather see Mr Chin 'do it' for Jamaica the way ScotiaBank 'does it' without beating up any chests.

I am, etc.,
