'Bubba' Smith's room-mate gets bail
published: Friday | August 6, 2004

By Barbara Gayle, Staff Reporter

CARLENE MORGAN, 28-year-old businesswoman who allegedly shared an apartment with leader of the One Order Gang, Oliver 'Bubba' Smith, who was shot and killed on July 13, is to return to the Gun Court on August 20 to stand trial for illegal possession of 803 rounds of ammunition which were reportedly found in the apartment.

The allegations are that on July 15, two days after Smith was killed, the police raided the apartment on Old Harbour Road which Morgan shared with Smith. During the search, the police found 750 rounds of .357 magnum cartridges and 53 rounds of 9mm cartridges. Morgan was arrested and charged.

Attorneys-at-law Earl Witter and Barrington Frankson, who represent Morgan, applied for her bail when she appeared before Mrs. Justice Marjorie Cole-Smith in the Gun Court. The lawyers submitted that Morgan was not a flight risk and had no previous conviction.

The lawyers pointed out that Morgan was not at the apartment at the time when the police allegedly searched the premises. The judge granted her bail in the sum of $500,000 with a surety with certain conditions attached to her bail. Morgan has been ordered to surrender her travel documents to the police and she is to report to the Constant Spring police station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
