Missing Dutch woman found here
published: Saturday | August 7, 2004

KINGSTON, CMC:

A 25-YEAR-OLD Dutch woman who was reported missing in Holland a year ago has been found in Jamaica.

Sandy Maria Peter was arrested last Saturday along the Kingston waterfront and charged by the Immigration Department for overstaying her time in Jamaica.

Ms. Peter, who appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court on Thursday, pleaded guilty to breaches of the Immigration Act. She was fined $5,000 (US$81) and ordered deported.

The police said Ms. Peter was seen on the Kingston waterfront on Saturday attempting to board a foreign vessel. They said checks with the Dutch Embassy revealed that Peter's parents in Holland had reported her missing last August.

According to Ms. Peter, she bought a one-year ticket to Jamaica and thought she could have remained in the country for a year.
