THE EDITOR: SirI WRITE with regards to Denbigh 2004. My family and I and, I am sure, thousands of patrons are upset, disgusted, annoyed and disappointed at the treatment meted out to us on Sunday, August 1.
We went to see a good show and judging from what I heard and saw it was a good show. It was well laid out with lots of variety. The security was evident and apparently well-briefed and the patrons turned out in numbers. However, my disappointment was with the entry no re-entry stipulation at the gates.
Having gone to church in the morning in Manchester, we drove to Denbigh, Clarendon and arrived about 3:00 p.m. We spent about half an hour parking, getting tickets and going inside. About half an hour later we bought some plants and wanted to put them in the car. We were told at the gate that we could not come back inside unless we paid again. We could not walk around with these things and we really wanted to see the show. We had spent only half an hour inside.
EXPLANATION
No amount of explanation, pleading or reasoning that we gave could move the security personnel who were polite but very resolute as to the mandate they were given i.e. NO RE-ENTRY full stop!
We spent over $2,000 on gas and tickets and we wanted to enjoy ourselves. We put our plants in the car and left vowing never to come back again if that policy is going to govern future shows.
Good work organisers RADA, JAS and all others but the gate regulation stinks. Retract that. Whatever happened to stamping the hand of patrons who want to go out for legitimate reasons and return to the grounds? Why have they stopped doing that? I think members of the public who got caught up in this scenario deserve an apology from the organisers.
I am, etc.,
