Signals from Great Britain
published: Monday | August 16, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir
THE BRITISH Government has been sending us clear and unequivocal signals that they wish to fundamentally change their relationship with Jamaica.
In particular
(a) They demanded that we apply for visas, similar to the Americans
(b) They unilaterally decided to send home our criminal nationals who are causing overcrowding in their prisons, hence reducing the expense to their taxpayers
(c) The decision by to reduce prices we get for our sugar by 37 per cent over a three-year period, while not a direct British Government decision, still pleases them.
No amount of pleading will change their mind.
I am, etc.,
