Digicel launches pre-paid roaming

DIGICEL, THE Caribbean-based mobile phone provider has become has the first mobile telecommunications company to introduce prepaid roaming services across the Caribbean islands.

The new service became effective on Sunday, August 15 and offers roaming service for Digicel's pre-paid customers in Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

"We want our prepaid customers to have the convenience and flexibility of roaming across our Caribbean network. Calls will be charged at the low rate of US .49 cents per minute and of course once you are on our network you are not charged to receive calls," stated Commercial Director, Harry Smith. "Our post paid customers have access to the finest roaming network in the Caribbean. We currently have agreements with over 200 roaming partners across the globe in over 100 countries, twice as many as our nearest competitor, and our goal is to move from strength to strength with our pre-paid roaming as well."

ROAMING IN UK

Digicel has also announced that pre-paid roaming to the UK will be available soon, and that it will be continually working to add other countries.

No contract is needed for prepaid roaming, nor are customers required to pay a deposit and prices for the service will be very competitive. Since launching as a regional telecom provider in April 2001, Digicel has provided the islands of Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, Cayman, Aruba, St. Vincent & the Grenadines with a reliable network. GSM service, per second billing, picture messaging & mobile web, mobile chat, electronic recharge services, electronic swipe card top-up, Call Me and now pre-paid roaming. The company currently has over one million subscribers on its Jamaican network.
