By Germaine Smith, Staff ReporterAFTER BEING arrested in Trinidad on obscene language charges, Bounty Killer posted TT$25,000 bail yesterday.
The deejay appeared in the Port-of-Spain Magistrate's Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges, after being arrested there early Sunday morning.
According to reports published in the Trinidad Guardian, shortly after going on stage, Killer performed briefly before complaining that two years ago in Trinidad his microphone was switched off during a show. During this monologue, he reportedly used the obscenities, and shortly after, three policemen esorted him off the stage.
Killer's arrest caused a near riot inside the venue where an estimated 15,000 strong crowd had attended.
CROWD HURLED BOTTLES
Angry at the arrest of the deejay, sections of the crowd hurled bottles and other missiles at police officers forcing them to grab plastic chairs to use as shields.
In trying to prevent the chaos, they blasted gunshots into the air, causing patrons to bolt for the venue's exit. When the dust settled, it was reported that two police constables were hurt during the onslaught.
When he appeared in court, he was granted TT$25,000 bail. The magistrate also ordered that he surrender his passport.
Like other Caribbean countries, the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago has strict laws relating to the use of curse words on-stage. In 1999, American Rapper DMX was arrested after a performance as well for the same offence. He paid US$24 after appearing in court there.
