Time to join the 21st century
published: Tuesday | August 17, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RE WIGTON Wind Farm: "Mr. Patterson addressed concerns by residents that since the erection of the turbines, the village has become very 'hot' as the farm is using up all the breeze. He assured them that all the experts confirm that the project is environmentally friendly and will not deplete the abundance of wind."

The above quotation is from the story in The Gleaner of July 31, 2004. Is it meant as a joke? I applaud the efforts the Govern-ment is making to use alternate energy such as the newly-opened windfarm at Wigton. However, I cannot believe that people actually believe that the wind turbines 'use up' all the breeze in the area. When are Jamaicans going to join the 21st century?

I am, etc.,
