Face of Summer finals on Sunday
published: Friday | August 20, 2004

ON SUNDAY 80 hopefuls will compete for the coveted title of 'CVM Face of Summer' and a lucrative modelling contract from Saint International. They will also catch a glimpse of what it takes to become a successful international model when the three previous female winners of the competition strut their stuff, 'the fashion way'.

The section of the show which will feature the international models Canise Jackson, Nakiesha Robinson and Yasmin Johnson, who won in 2001, 2002, and 2003 respectively, is being dubbed 'Three the Fashion Way'. The presentation of the three models will be styled by Tyron Mayes, who has worked with stars such as Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman, Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey. According to Saint, Mayes has always been credited with bringing high fashion to local runways. Fashion by names such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivien Westwood have all graced the catwalk at Saint events courtesy of Mayes, the company said in a release.

INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

The three past winners have enjoyed international success. The most noted successes have come from Robinson, who was endorsed by Naomi Campbell as the next black supermodel. Robinson has also done campaigns for Dolce and Gabbana. She has appeared on the catwalk for some of fashion's biggest names, including Alexander McQueen, Diane Von Furstenburg, Missoni, ICEBERG, Roberto Cavalli and Givenchy and made an impressive runway debut with 10 shows at 'London Fashionweek' in September 2003. Since then she has appeared on the cover of Germany's STYLE magazine.

Yashmin has shot a campaign for Kenneth Cole and is to be featured in the upcoming 'Black Girls Rule' issue of Trace magazine. She opened and closed the show for one of Europe's top brands, Gharani Strok, during London Fashionweek in January.

Canise copped the cover of French Diva's magazine, after winning the competition and before she even left Jamaica to pursue her career. She was signed in Paris, Milan and London, where she has appeared on numerous runway shows and was a face for the MAC Cosmetic Campaign 2002, shot by noted fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo. Canise recently appeared in Italian Vogue in a story shot by powerhouse Iris Brosch. She has walked for Georgio Armani, Gattinoni in Milan and a host of French designers.

All girls will set to captivate the audience on Sunday.

In addition to the spectacle of the three top models, Saint International is promising a glitzy showcase for the climax of the 'CVM Faces of Summer Model Search' finals. The spectacle will unfold at the Jamaica Pegasus with an opening number dubbed 'Fashionably Black', during which contestants will model different interpretations of black elegance.
