Mystery note sent to Mayor Notice
published: Friday | August 20, 2004

Tyrone Reid, Staff Reporter

A CONTROVERSIAL notice demanding answers from the St. Catherine Parish Council about the death of slain 'One Order' gang leader, Oliver 'Bubba' Smith among other questions was found posted on the door of the Council yesterday morning.

Dr. Raymoth Notice, Mayor of Spanish Town, said while the perpetrators are still unknown, he strongly believes there is some correlation between the questions and threats to snuff out his life which he said surfaced recently. "There is someone who seems to be against my utterances about the crime problem in Spanish Town and in particular the inability of the police to remedy the problem," he said.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

When asked, if he was saying that the police personnel were involved, Mayor Notice said: "I am leaving it open, I am not saying so (but) in all aspects anything is possible."

This 'writing on the wall' comes in wake of speculations earlier this month that plans were afoot to have Mayor Notice killed. Subsequently, the Mayor was summoned to an emergency meeting with the top brass of the CIB Headquarters in downtown Kingston, following reports of alleged death threats made against his life. A senior officer told The Gleaner that based on the outcome of the meeting, the decision might be made to facilitate the Mayor with security coverage.

However, the Mayor was tight-lipped about what was conveyed in the meeting, but revealed that "there are strategies to be put in place to deal with that situation."

FOUR QUESTIONS

Mayor Notice revealed that the first of four questions posted on the Council building queried the relationship between the Parish Council and the notorious 'One Order' gang. The next question, he said, asked who received the first $300,000 out of the $500,000 that was used to clean the Spanish Town market last year.

"What we found was that the notice that was placed is not only a direct threat to my leadership and my life, it is questioning my dignity and integrity. It is also an indictment against the administration of the Parish Council and all councillors associated with the Council," declared Mayor Notice.
