Ja's skies open up
published: Wednesday | August 25, 2004

ENHANCEMENTS IN air service to Jamaica from major gateways in North America are making this Caribbean destination easier than ever to reach.

In one recent development, US Airways announced it will introduce a new service to Kingston from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, according to news reports. The new service will begin in February 2005, subject to government approval. US Airways says it plans to charge a fare of US$124 each way on the route to give it a competitive advantage. The airline currently flies to Montego Bay. Following is a Jamaica Tourist Board update on additions to service from North America:

United Airlines plans to include Jamaica in its expansion service with twice-weekly flights out of Chicago to Montego Bay, beginning in December 2004.

Sunquest Vacations will increase service to Jamaica in winter 2004/2005, with charters to Montego Bay from Toronto three times a week, and departures from Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary once a week.

Also from Canada, Conquest Vacations has resumed offering vacations to Jamaica; and Red Seal Vacations/Sunwing will add Jamaica in November.

The return of Air Transat Vacations to Jamaica will further increase air service weekly from Montreal and Toronto.

MORE FLIGHTS ALSO FROM EUROPE

New European airlift has additionally become effective this year with the following providers:

Lauda Air out of Germany

Jet Air out of Germany

Tui out of Germany (now with plans to quadruple service)

Marsans, a Spanish tour operator, has increased service from Spain.
