published: Wednesday | August 25, 2004

HERE IS one of the 20 contestants in the Miss Jamaica World competition. Leading up to the grand coronation show scheduled for September 11 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, the contestants will participate in various mini-competitions which will determine the top 10.

The 'Talent', 'Sports' and 'Beach Beauty' competitions are three such mini-competitions. The public is invited to 'Pick the Winner' via telephone voting by using their C&W bMobile phones.

To vote for Jordanne Halsall call 444-4202

Name: Jordanne Halsall Miss Telstar Cable

Age: 18 years

Occupation: Student

Height: 5' 9"

Weight: 130lbs

Vital Stats: 34-26-38

What is your response to the claim that beauty contests are superficial?

"If you're judging off beauty alone its superficial. But I don't think it's superficial because a lot of work goes into it. We have walking classes, speech classes, grooming classes and when you look at it in the long run it helps you to become a wiser person when it comes on to certain situations. It helps you to look on the brighter side of how things are."

What in your opinion is your best quality?:

"My personality. I'm always smiling. I don't let things bother me. Life is too short to make things bother you. I'm a very vibrant, cheerful person. I tend to look on the outcome rather than what is at hand right now."

How does being in the competition affect your career goals and how will it affect them if you win?:

"It will not affect it. It only enhances it and makes it better. I hope to eventually open my own business in the future in the hotel and hospitality field. It will only help me, open doors for me. It will be only positive, not negative."

What do you think of the addition of the talent, sports and beach beauty mini-competitions to the pageant?:

"I think its good that I actually entered those competitions even though I'm not a talent person. I don't have any but I'm still going to try. But it's good for those girls who enter the competition feeling that they might not place, that having those competitions means that they can work for it. I think it will help to boost people's self-esteem some more."

Which of the mini-competitions do you stand the best chance of winning?:

"I've always been a swimmer so I have confidence in the swimming, in the athletic part."

Name three must-haves:

"Happiness, candy and a positive outlook."

Why should you win the title of Miss Jamaica World?:

"I think winning I could represent my country. I could bring something to the country. Jamaica has a wonderful culture, 'Out of many, One people' is our motto and I believe I could represent that. I just think I could bring something to Jamaica that nobody else has really brought. Speak about topics that people haven't spoken about, that people refuse to speak about. Become an ambassador."
