The toll charge is too much
published: Saturday | August 28, 2004

The EDITOR, Sir:

I AM writing in regards to the toll road currently being built to replace the causeway.

I am a Portmore resident and it is discomforting to think that I and others are being charged to leave and re-enter our community.

I understand and have also taken into consideration the fact that much money has already been invested in this project. However, $65 is undoubtedly too much to be charged to leave and re-enter our residence.

I feel obligated to give my suggestions as I am a resident of Portmore and whatever the outcome I will be affected by it.

My suggestions are as follows:

(i) There should be two roads leading in and out of Portmore with NO TOLL to be charged, therefore when there is a heavy flow of traffic residents have a choice of remaining in the traffic or paying a toll and drive on the toll road which should have free-flow traffic.

(ii) There should also be one NO TOLL road to leave Portmore ONLY and after a certain hour at nights. NO TOLL would be charged to re-enter Portmore.

These are my suggestions. I firmly believe that these suggestions should be taken into consideration. As a Portmore resident I feel that the current arrangement in place for Portmore residents to pay when leaving home and also when returning is an utter disappointment.

I am, etc.,
