NORMAL ACTIVITIES were disrupted in May Pen, Clarendon for the second consecutive day on Thursday as vendors continued their protest over the demolition of their stalls which were located in the May Pen bus park.
In the meantime, André Wiltshire, commercial services manager for the Clarendon Parish Council who has responsibility for the May Pen market, has been suspended with immediate effect in relation to Tuesday night's demolition, according to Mike Henry, member of parliament for central Clarendon.
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting to review the demolition issue between Adassa Morgan, secretary manager of the May Pen Parish Council; Milton Brown, Mayor of May Pen; Winston Kelly, superintendent of Roads and Works and other council officials as well as Superintendent Terrence Bent, commanding officer for Clarendon.
At the same time, Mr. Henry said the Clarendon Parish Council would be investigating whether Miss Morgan, who yesterday admitted to giving instructions for the demolition, acted in accordance with council procedures.
On Tuesday, Superintendent Terence Bent, the commanding officer for Clarendon told The Gleaner that Mr. Wiltshire had requested that the police provide security for workmen carrying out the demolition.
There were hours of unrest in May Pen on Thursday as the protesters hurled explosive material at police who tried to maintain calm. The police later arrested two persons for public mischief.
