KSAFA to elect its President today
published: Saturday | August 28, 2004

By Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

AFFILIATES of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) will decide to either retain or vote out its current executive body headed by interim President Orville Marshall, at its biennial Congress at the Conference Centre, Kingston today.

Marshall was thrust into the Presidential seat with the absconding of office earlier this year of former President, Carlton Barclay, who took up duties as Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Treasurer.

At today's Congress, Marshall and his team will seek re-election on a slate in a match against the team led by the association's former President, Ambassador A.B. Stewart Stephenson.

Other members running on Marshall's slate are Patrick Roberts for 1st vice-president, Godfrey Lothian for 2nd vice-president, Dawn Smith for General Secretary, Ainsley Smikle for Treasurer, Brian Rose for Assistant Treasurer, and Winston Keyes for Assistant General Secretary.

In a press Launch last week the administrative team unveiled a manifesto that they believe will ensure that they will be re-elected.

They have pointed to the creation of two mini-stadiums by 2006, changing the KSAFA structure to that of a limited liability entity and the integration of an accounting system in the first month of taking office as the cornerstones of their bid.

The incumbents will have to deal with a strong challenge from the Stephenson-led contingent that includes Carvel Stewart for 1st vice president, Carlton Dennis for 2nd vice president, David Hunt for General Secretary, Gregory Simms as Assistant General Secretary, Rudolph Speid as Treasurer, and Brian Rose as Assistant Treasurer.

They have pointed focus on eight subjects in their manifesto citing that:

They will be seeking to rebuild a strong administrative unit, restructuring the association in four years, introducing a full-time administration, updating and modernising the KSAFA website, creating a database of players of all age groups, building new and strengthening existing KSAFA clubs, introducing a fair and transparent process in the treatment of disciplinary matters, and consolidating all amendments into a single revision of the KSAFA constitution.
