Tivoli get a shot at two titles

TIVOLI GARDENS basketball and netball clubs will be defending their titles tomorrow when both teams contest the finals of the Western Union basketball and netball competition at the Tivoli Gardens Sports Complex.

Playing in their own backyard has proven to be a great advantage for the west Kingston teams and at 4:00 p.m. will be looking to bag the Western Union Trophy and $30,000 in the netball championship game. Second and third place will receive $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.

In the basketball match, Tivoli play Olympic Gardens and Ebony Strikers play the hosts in the netball game.

PLAY-OFF

The third place play-off will precede the final at 3:00 p.m. with Eden Strikers meeting Molynes United in netball and Franklyn Town playing Maverly in basketball.

Tivoli's basketball team got past Franklyn Town 82-58 in the semis and the netballers whipped Eden Strikers 29-12 on Thursday.Member of Parliament (MP) for West Kingston, the constituency in which Tivoli falls, Edward Seaga and MP for East Central St. Andrew, Eden Strikers' constituency, Dr. Peter Phillips, were present to support their team.

In the other semi-finals played on Wednesday, Ebony Strikers outscored Molynes United 26-19 and Olympic Gardens stopped Maverley-Hughenden 80-60 in netball and basketball respectively.

Following the final will be the closing ceremony and Dr. Omar Davies will be the guest speaker.
