More congrats for Veronica
published: Wednesday | September 1, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE ENTIRE contingent to the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece has done us very proud and as a team they should all be heartily congratulated. Without doubt, however, the greatest individual achievement in the history of Jamaica's participation in the Olympics has been by Veronica Campbell with her haul of two gold medals and a bronze medal as brawta. Unprecedented in our annals and unexpected by many, however, twice in gold achieved and delivered, and a little more for the sweat and especially tears she shed and shared with us. Not only was Veronica, Jamaica's outstanding athlete at the XXVIII Olympiad, but she was also the most outstanding track and field athlete at the games.

What better tribute for her achievement could there be, than to re-name Mountain View Avenue, Veronica Campbell Drive? How fitting it would be for one to exit Veronica Campbell Drive from the north or the south, enter Arthur Wint Drive and be at the Stadium/Independence Park Complex. As a fitting tribute to the entire contingent to the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, I recommend that in time for the 2004 Heroes Day celebrations, Mountain View Avenue from Windward Road to Old Hope Road, be re-named Veronica Campbell Drive.

I am, etc.,

FRANK LYN
