THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT WAS with great joy and gladness that we watched 'Jamaica Run' at the Olympic games in Athens. Jamaica's sons and daughters have once again done us proud, glad tidings indeed! The military and economically powerful countries of the world watched. The people in the pavilion and in their living rooms watched our human athletic well-oiled machinery running for gold... and it was gold!
The spirit of nationalism is high and we should ensure that their accomplishments are well documented in a monumental way. As a result, Prime Minister, I am recommending the following:
That an athletic museum be established and that all medals (gold, silver and bronze), newspaper clippings and video recordings be mounted so that Jamaicans from all walks of life and visitors alike may view them;
That the western end of the National Heroes Park be earmarked for the final resting place for our athletes, past or present, who have distinguished themselves, here or abroad.
In order to encourage excellence I am prepared to kick-start the project with US$1,000 as my contribution towards this endeavour.
I am, etc.,
GLEN B.
