Respect our garbage collectors
published: Thursday | September 2, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to say thank you to the hard working garbage collectors, whose job it is to help to keep the place free of garbage thus helping all of us to enjoy a cleaner, healthier country.

We need to start regarding the job of garbage collecting as a vital service and pay due respect to those who dare to go where others shun. The garbage men and women must be respected. They should be given suitable protective clothing e.g. gloves, overalls, masks and safety boots by the relevant authorities and compensated favourably. Not because they collect garbage, should we treat them like garbage.

I am, etc.,
